Ford Fiesta on stilts
Ford has officially launched their new Ecosport, a new breed of urban SUV. So what is the Ecosport? Basically, it’s Ford’s amazingly popular Fiesta hatchback on stilts. It’s designed to be able to go where the Fiesta fears to tread, as it has an impressive 550mm wading depth – allowing it to go through the occasional flood that we always seem to get whenever Mother Nature decides to turn on the waterworks. It has 200mm of ground clearance, so you won’t have to play the “will the bottom of my car scratch that” guessing game when you’re out driving.
We weren’t kidding about the Ford Fiesta part though – the Ford Ecosport’s engine is similar to the 1.5-liter Ti-VCT four-cylinder engine that’s present in the Fiesta, so you get the same great mileage driving the Ecosport in a far roomier package. How roomy? Well, the Ford Ecosport has 705(!) liters of space with the rear seats tumbled, which is coincidentally enough room to fit in a washing machine. Ford also threw in 20 storage compartments in the Ecosport, and a glove box that can fit 6 cans of drinks while keeping them cool.
Prices for the Ford Ecosport start at Php 775,000 for the 1.5L T-VCT Ambiente MT. The 1.5L Ti-VCT Trend MT goes for Php 825,000. The 1.5L Ti-VCT Trend AT goes for Php 875,000, while the 1.5L Ti-VCT Titanium AT will go for Php 975,000. It’s available in seven colors: Mars Red, Candy Red, Lunar Sky, Ingot Silver, Frozen White, Panther Black and Winning Blue.
