If you’re thinking about buying a new car even though you don’t have your own parking garage, think long and hard – the MMDA is intensifying its drive against illegally parked vehicles to try and reduce the absolutely insane traffic that’s effectively paralyzing Manila roads.
The MMDA has effectively formed a new team to clear illegally parked cars in major thoroughfares composed of 60 personnel from various departments within the government agency and their Towing Operation and Anti-Illegal Parking groups.
Their efforts have already borne fruit, sort of – traffic flow was unusually smooth right after their clearing operations in La Salle, Greenhills a few weeks ago. Of course, inconsiderate motorists were right back a few days after that, but hey – Rome wasn’t built in a day. At least they tried.
Since the intensified clearing operations began, the MMDA has towed a total of 79 cars from June 22 to June 28. They’ve also cleared around 20 illegally parked cars in Quezon City and Manila, including vehicles in areas like Mother Ignacia Avenue (ABS-CBN), Scout Borromeo, Nagtahan Manila and Agham Road, QC.
