We unbox MyPhone’s budget my32!

Late last year MyPhone told us that they were dissolving all of their current smartphone lineups and going with a single, consolidated line. While that meant a tighter focus on the things that matter, one side effect was that many of the well-known lines of the company would disappear, including the pioneering Rio lineup that started the brand’s push into sub 5K smartphone territory.

While the Rio brand is gone, at least MyPhone is cognizant enough to at least, out a spiritual successor in the form of the my32. It’s a budget octa-core device that has all the goodies you’d expect. Let’s dive in the unboxing, shall we?

Packaging and contents:

The my32 comes in MyPhone’s updated small packaging for its budget phones. The white box has the photo of the phone at the front, which tells you about the freebies that come with the phone – a limited edition 8-year commemorative watch, and 1 year of free interenet courtesy of Globe.

Anyways, once you open the box you’ll see the phone, along with the standard accessories which include a USB cable, charger, headphones and the manual.

Initial impressions: looks a lot like the my36

When we first took the My32 out of the box, we were taken aback at how much it looked like MyPhone’s bang-for-the-buck my36, at least from the back. Much like other budget phones in the market today, the my32 sports an all-plastic build, with a curved back that allows users to hold on to it easier when using the phone one-handed.

Up front you’ll see the physical capacitive Android navigation keys, along with the 5-inch HD IPS display and the 5-megapixel front camera. The power and volume buttons are on the right side of the phone, while the 3.5mm jack and the USB port are located on the top and bottom, respectively.

Flip the phone over and you’ll see the gloss, pearlescent glossy black finish of the phone, with the PH map emblazoned on it. MyPhone has stated that the PH map on the back of their phones is there to stay, which may be a deal-breaker to some. The 13-megapixel rear camera is located on the upper left side.

Just like their other phones the back of the my32 is removable, and taking it off reveals the two SIM slots, microSD slot and the 2000mAh removable battery.

As far as the other specs go, you’re looking at a MediaTek MT6592M octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. The MT6592M processor has been long documented and has been a staple of budget brands before, so it’s no longer a surprise to see what the phone is capable of (and what its limitations are).
