President Rodrigo Duterte has made good on his promise to extend the validity of drivers licenses, as the Department of Transportation has moved to implement a longer validity period for driver’s licenses this year.

Starting in September 19 2016, motorists that trot to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) or any of its satellite branches to renew their drivers licenses will get a five year validity instead of the regular three during previous administrations.

The change affects both professional and non-professional drivers licenses.

“By Sept. 19, those who will renew their licenses in the National Capital Region will have five-year validity,” said Cherie Mercado, spokesperson of the Department of Transportation (DOT).
