Will we see Alibaba’s products in the PH?
Big news for Lazada today, and we’re not talking about Elephone: Chinese e-commerce juggernaut Alibaba has bought controlling stake of the Rocket Internet brand for a cool $1 billion.
Why Lazada? Well, Alibaba has pretty much topped out in China, one of the world’s most mature ecommerce markets. The company is understandably looking beyond its own borders to the hottest place for ecommerce: Southeast Asia. Lazada’s in a perfect spot for that, as it operates not only in the Philippines but in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
What will this ultimately mean for eCommerce in our country? Will this mean a wider selection of goods in Lazada’s website? We’ll find out soon enough.
