As BLACKPINK Arrives In Manila, #ShopeeScam Trends On Twitter

Serious allegations have been levied against Shopee

(UPDATE: article now includes Shopee’s official statement)

Shopee’s fan meet-and-greet for BLACKPINK fans is currently making waves on Twitter, but probably not in the way the e-commerce site wants.

Angry Blinks (BLACKPINK fans) have taken to Twitter to vent frustrations against Shopee, who they are accusing of pulling tickets and changing the promo mechanics of their #ShopeeBlackpinkinMNL contest that they ran a few weeks ago.

As of press time, Twitter’s top trending topic is #SHOPEESCAM, where many of Blink fans are complaining that the supposed fan event was filled to the brim with celebrity influencers and not fans.

Among the trending tweets under #SHOPEESCAM include a list of Shopee top spenders who allegedly did not receive any tickets despite spending hundreds of thousands of pesos during the promo period. Based on the mechanics, the top 568 spenders for cumulative purchases from May 11 to 25 will get a Black ticket.

Netizen, Nikka Bondoc, shared a long thread detailing the inconsistencies of the promo, which include last-minute changes in the promo mechanics. Instead of “for orders to be counted to the buyer’s total accumulated purchases, orders must be placed from May 11-25 and must be received and completed by June 1, 2019”, Shopee changed the mechanics, stating that orders should be received and completed by May 25, 11:59 pm.

As of this writing, Nikka said that they have filed a DTI complaint against Shopee.

Twitter user Menchor Allen Mayang supposedly got a ticket from Shopee and booked a flight to Manila for the meet and greet, but according to him, his ticket was pulled at the last minute, with Shopee saying his ticket was retracted because of wrong information.

We’ve reached out to Shopee for comment, though they have not made any statement regarding the issue. Here’s Shopee’s official statement regarding the event:
