Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite Unboxing, Quick Review: Long-Lasting Budget Device

Let’s Unbox the Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite!

It’s been a hot minute since Asus unveiled the newest member of their big-batteried smartphones —  the Asus Zenfone Max Plus M1 — but just last week they released yet another smartphone as part of their so-called “Battery King” line. The device we’re talking about is the budget-oriented Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite and as the name suggests it’s a toned down version of the base model in both its processing power and battery capacity. Let’s take a look at its packaging before giving you an overview of the device itself.

Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite Specs

What’s in the Box?

The Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite comes in the familiar blue packaging we’ve seen from the Taiwanese brand recently, which highlights the main features of the device. Open up the shrink wrap, slide off the sleeve, and we’re glad that we aren’t immediately greeted by the device since the aforementioned sleeve doesn’t offer much protection. Instead, you have a small cardboard box with the documentation and the silicon case for the phones inside it. Lift that up and you’ve got the Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite itself. You also have the usual set of accessories, which includes: the micro USB cable, Wall Charger, In-Ear Headphones, and an OTG cable as well.

Initial Impressions: More of a Battery Prince

Asus pulled a fast one on us with the Asus Zenfone 4 Max. Its body was primarily made of polycarbonate plastic but was given a metallic finish that felt cold to the touch when left in an air-conditioned room. The Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite is made of the same material and utilizes the same unibody build, so we can pretty much expect the same durability with the device as well. It retains the same button and port layout as its bigger brother as well, but let’s take you through the obligatory tour of the device anyway.

You’ve got the volume rocker and the power button on the right side of the device.

One the left is where you’ll find access to the SIM tray.

You’ve got the headphone jack up on top.

While the micro USB port and speaker grille are found on the bottom of the device.

Moving over to the back of the device, you’ll find its dual camera setup tucked on the upper left-hand side. You’ve got a 13-megapixel main camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and is equipped with phase detection autofocus. The secondary camera is a 5-megapixel wide-angle camera with a 120-degree field of view.

The front of the phone is dominated by a 5.2-inch HD IPS display with 2.5D curved glass to help give the phone better ergonomics. Yup, no added screen real estate here but you’ve still got a pretty decent panel here. Not having an 18:9 display also means that the fingerprint scanner is on the chin of the device, which also doubles up as the home button, and is flanked by capacitive navigation keys.

On the top bezel is where you’ll find the 8-megapixel front camera that’s been given its dedicated LED flash for selfies in low-light situations.

Under the hood of the Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor that’s paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. This processing package should be enough for the usual suite of social media apps and very light gaming but give us a couple of days to figure out just how far we can push it for some of the more popular titles in the market right now. The system is running Android Nougat 7.1.1 out of the box with ZenUI 4 on top of it.

The Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite has a 4100mAh battery, which is an understandable step down from the base ZF4 Max model given its size difference. We still have to run the standard tests to make sure it lives up to the Max name but we’re pretty confident that it will. The device also supports fast charging to help top up the larger than usual battery as well.

That’s pretty much it for this quick look at the Asus Zenfone 4 Max Lite, which retails for Php 7,995. For its full review, check back in a couple days to see if its worth considering for your next purchase.
