ASUS ROG Phone 3

If we’re going to talk about gaming phones, it’s no surprise that ASUS’ ROG Phone 3 is at the top of the list. ASUS practically invented the product category, and since they’re on the third iteration already, they’ve gotten exceedingly good at making it. The ROG Phone 3 has all the niceties that you’d expect from a gaming phone: ultra-fast 144Hz refresh rate display, beautiful AMOLED panel as well as virtual shoulder buttons on the side, Snapdragon 865+ processor, and access to all the accessories made for the ROG Phone 2, and a bunch more for the ROG Phone 3.

There are several variants of the ROG Phone 3 – a Strix version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the regular version which has 12GB of RAM and 512GB version, and the highest tier variant that has a ridiculous 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Lenovo Legion Phone Duel

Lenovo’s not about to get left behind when we talk about gaming phones, as the company also has its own in the form of the Lenovo Phone Duel. The Phone Duel has all the hallmarks of a great gaming phone, including a super-fast 6.65-inch, full HD+ resolution Super AMOLED panel, along with a 144Hz refresh rate and 240Hz sampling rate for reduced input lag.

It has a specially made landscape UI for mobile gamers, as well as virtual side buttons to use just like the ROG Phone 3. It also has a side-mounted, motorized selfie camera that makes streaming with the phone a breeze.

As a direct competitor to the ROG Phone 3, Lenovo has aggressively positioned their offering well below the SRP of the ROG Phone 3, with the phone retailing at just Php 39,995 for the 12GB/256GB version.

The higher-spec 16GB/512GB version is just a little bit more at Php 49,995.

BlackShark 3 Pro

The Xiaomi-aligned BlackShark 3 Pro isn’t officially offered here in the Philippines, but when there’s a will, there’s always away. Kimstore sells the BlackShark 3 Pro for quite a fair price, and you’re getting a lot for your money for the asking price: top-tier processor, 7.1-inch AMOLED display, 90Hz refresh rate as well as physical (not virtual) pop-up gaming triggers on the side, which gives you a better tactile feel when playing games that require it.

The only downside here is that you’re still technically buying a grey market unit, so your service and support options are limited to what store you buy it from.

It’s currently priced at Php 41,000 for the 12GB RAM/256GB storage version from Kimstore.

nubia Red Magic 5S

ZTE isn’t exactly what you’d call a well-known brand, and aside from a former President’s scandal that has their name attached to it, most Filipinos don’t even know that they even make phones. But make phones they do, and apparently something they do pretty decently – there’s enough of a following behind their nubia line of gaming phones to necessitate a purchase.

While the nubia Red Magic 5S is the only phone in this list not to use a Snapdragon 865+ processor, it’s more than made up for the phone’s price, with its SRP dipping under Php 30K in their Lazada flagship store even with shipping factored in. The phone also has equivalents to the features of its competitors, namely shoulder buttons, attachment points for accessories as well as a 6.65-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate.

With all of that, the nubia Red Magic is a good buy for anyone who doesn’t mind contending with the fact that there are no local service centers to fix the phone if it goes wrong. It’s currently being sold for Php 28,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant in Lazada, making it the most affordable phone in this 2021 best gaming phones in the Philippines list.

Key specs:

  • 6.65-inch AMOLED display, full HD+ resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate,
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB storage
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor
  • 64-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture lens, 8-megapixel ultra-wide with f/2.0 aperture, 2-megapixel macro lens
  • 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture
  • 4500mAh battery
  • 55W fast charging
