Initial Impressions: it’s like the Flare S6 Plus without the gimmicks

The Flare S6 Selfie has a lot in common with the more expensive S6 Plus. The design language is similar to the S6 Plus, though there’s unsightly seam lines at the top and bottom of the phone where the antenna lines merge with the device. Aside from the 16-megapixel rear megapixel camera and LED flash right below it, the rear of the phone is pretty clean.

Flipping the phone over, you’ll see the volume rocker plus power buttom on the right side. The microSD/SIM slot is on the left side while the 3.5mm jack is on the top. The USB Type-C connector plus speaker grilles are all on the bottom of the phone.

The front of the Flare S6 Selfie is dominated by the 5.2-inch full HD IPS display. The home key doubles as the fingerprint scanner, and is flanked by Android navigation keys on either side.

Like the Flare S6 Plus, the Flare S6 Selfie has the same 16-megapixel camera armed with a Samsung ISOCELL S5K3P3 sensor on the front as in the back. Samsung’s ISOCELL S5K3P3 is an incredibly common camera sensor that’s used on a lot of other smartphones currently in the market today, so it’s not an unknown variable as far as image quality is concerned.

The Flare S6 Selfie also sports a MediaTek MT6750T octa-core processor just like the Flare S6 Plus, though you have less RAM and storage to work with in comparison, just 3GB and 16GB versus 4GB and 64GB. As far as performance goes, the MT6750T is good enough for daily use though power users will find that the phone’s lack of oomph disappointing. Just like its more expensive brother, the Flare S6 Selfie comes with Cherry Mobile’s own homebrew UI, Cherry OS.

All in all the Flare S6 Selfie has a lot of the same ingredients that are in Cherry Mobile’s current flagship. It has the same camera sensors on the front and back as well as the same processor, and a lot of the same design DNA. If you’re considering the Flare S6 Plus but can’t afford its Php 9,999 price tag, maybe the Flare S6 Selfie’s Php 7,999 sticker price may be more palatable to you.
