DOH Wants To Block Porn Sites To Prevent Spread Of AIDS

Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial is pushing to block porn websites from being accessed in the Philippines, stating that she wants the government to block lewd websites in the country as a measure to curb the spread of HIV-AIDS, especially among the youth.

Ubial said that she is pushing the government to undertake measures to ensure that pornographic websites will no longer be accessible in the Philippines, as she views this encourages promiscuous behavior in the youth.

“I will support anything that can curb the spread of HIV-AIDS,” she said.

According to a report with the Star yesterday, she is no longer pushing the distribution of condoms among senior high school students, saying that it was only an option raised for consideration.

The government through the National Telecommunications Commission has earlier ordered both Globe and PLDT to block 21 porn sites from being accessed in the country. As of writing, only mobile Smart users are no longer able to view pornographic sites using data connections.

There have been no cases of AIDS or HIV transmittal as a direct result of viewing porn websites as of press time.
