Now that San Miguel has thrown the towel in and sold their telco assets to PLDT and Globe, it looks like there’s no chance for a third telco player.
That’s what a lot of you are thinking. But that’s not actually the case. According to PLDT, part of the deal is that both PLDT and Globe will relinquish certain radio frequencies back to the national government. This includes frequencies in the 700 MHz, 850 MHz, 2500 MHz, and 3500 MHz. These will be returned to the government via the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).
We are returning certain frequencies to gov't to ensure possible entry of a 3rd telco player. Competition good for our industry. No problem.

Now if anyone is still willing to take the challenge on, that’s a different story. :P
