Is the state of the country’s slow internet a national issue?
Davao Mayor and Presidential hopeful Rodrigo Duterte has turned his attention to the sorry state of our country’s slow internet, and intends to fully confront the telcos on the matter.
“Wala akong panahong makipagdaldalan. I’d talk to the telecommunications people and ask, ‘Ano bang problema n’yo?‘” Duterte said.
Slow internet issues are fast becoming big issues for politicians. Senator Bam Aquino recently filed a senate bill that gives higher penalties on erring telcos and essentially giving the National Telecommunications Commission bigger teeth.
To be fair, the tough-talking mayor isn’t very tech savvy, saying that he’s not aware of the internet, and his phone is an ancient push-button one. It’s not clear if this statement was in jest.
Would a candidate’s stand on how to address the sorry state of our slow internet matter to you in the coming elections?
