Electric Bills for December to Spike, Manage Consumption!

We strongly suggest to all of our readers to carefully manage their electricity consumption this December. Due to the Malampaya natural gas platform going on maintenance, generation charges will result to an increase of P2.0-P3.0 per killowatt-hour. Based on our computations that could be anywhere from a 30%-50% increase depending on your consumption. Just so you have an idea, the generation charge of Meralco was P5.66/kWh in last month. With the looming increase it will probably hit P8/kWh. That’s really a big spike. This is only temporary though and we can expect rates to return to normal in January or February.

Here are some tips on how to manage consumption.

Electricity Saving Tips

  1. Remove plugs from outlets of appliances when not in use (computers, LED TVs, gaming consoles, and chargers included). Even in standby mode appliances still consume electricity!
  2. Switch off lights when not in use.
  3. Replace Incandescent bulbs with CFL. This results to 75% savings for costs related to light.
  4. Use a timer for air-con. We suggest you lower over-all time running for December since it’s getting cooler anyway. Instead of 8 hours bring it down to 5-6.
  5. Turn on Christmas lights only when you have visitors or when you’re feeling lonely (lol).

If you get your bill next month and it’s the same or lower amount as the previous month then you’ve done a good job. 🙂

Let’s be proactive about this people. Manage your electricity consumption this month or else you’ll face a humongous bill come January!
