Sinulog 2017 Selfie Special

OPPO sent media representatives to Cebu for #Sinulog2017 and I was fortunate to be a part of it. I’ve never been to a festival before and I had no idea what to expect except for a lot of people flying in to be part of the unique cultural experience.

We spent a total of 4 days and we were able to tour parts of the city prior to the parade itself. Armed with an OPPO F1s, I took lots of photos and loads of selfies.  As a recap, here are its specs:

Please excuse my many selfies.  The OPPO F1s, after all, claims to be the #SelfieExpert.  So this is my Selfie Special (aka photo coverage) of Sinulog 2017.

Before the Sinulog Parade:

I was thrilled to find special seats reserved for OPPO’s guests during our PAL flight to and from Cebu. I couldn’t resist and took a selfie.

Our first stop: Rico’s Lechon for lunch! After one bite, I put my New Year’s Resolution to eat healthy on hold and ate to my heart’s content. I REGRET NOTHING.

A visit to Cebu is never complete without stopping for a photo of Magellan’s Cross. It was planted in 1521 when Ferdinand Magellan baptized Rajah Humabon and 400 other followers into the Catholic faith. It is a practice to drop coins or light candles at the foot of the cross.

The Basilica Minore del Santo Nino was built in 1565 and is the oldest Roman Catholic Church in the country. Its lights and banderitas added to the festive mood of Sinulog.

On our second day, we visited one of the newer attractions in Cebu – the Temple Leah, built by Teodorico Adarna (father of actress, Ellen Adarna) for his wife, Leah Villa Albino-Adarna.

And because I share the same name as the person whose temple was built for, I just had to take this photo.

After that, we went to Tops in Busay, Cebu to get an awesome view of the city from the top, but because it was foggy and we couldn’t see a thing, we took a top shot of us instead.

During the Sinulog Parade:

On the day of the parade, Ollie (OPPO’s cute mascot) and I prepped our faces with paint for Sinulog’s festivities.

The word Sinulog is a Cebuano adverb that means “like water’s current movement.” That is why the dance ritual honoring the Santo Nino has forward-backward steps, imitating the flow of Cebu’s Pahina River.

Of course, I took selfies during the parade using the OPPO F1s.

I still can’t get over the vibrant colors of Sinulog and how everyone seems to become “insta friends” by simply shouting “Pit Senyor!”

I’m beyond grateful to have been part of the amazing festival and cultural experience that is Sinulog 2017.

The OPPO F1s was released in August 2016.  As the company is reportedly going global this year, we can expect big things from them during the Mobile World Congress this coming February.
