Facebook Suspends Pre-Installation of its Apps on Huawei Phones

The suspension will affect future Huawei phones

Facebook joins the growing number of companies that have decided to suspend their business with Huawei while the Chinese brand is in hot water with the US Government.

In an exclusive report by Reuters, the suspsension means that new Huawei phones—specifically those that have yet left the factory and “future versions of Huawei phones” —will no longer be able to have Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram apps pre-installed.

This is a big blow to Huawei, as the suspension means that those purchasing their phones in the future will need to download the apps via Google’s Play store. That can be a problem after Google revoked Huawei’s Android license. Currently, Huawei has until August 19 before it is banned form accessing Google’s core services.

Facebook declined to comment on when the suspension will be effective while Huawei has yet issued a statement on the said development as of press writing.
