Globe is planning to offer tier-pricing for their subscribers after the complaints of consumers who were hit by their strict data caps complained to the NTC a few weeks ago. According to the report of the Philippine Star, Globe is preparing to offer a tiered data scheme for consumers who consume large volumes of data. “Preliminary, we may suggest a compromise whereby customers with highly stringent broadband requirements should move away from our unlimited services and instead consider our other plans, whereby, in consideration for a higher rate, we may agree to set higher volume limits, or, if no limit is desired, we may charge a premium rate for providing such special service,” the company stated in a position paper accoring to the report.

In laymans terms, Globe is planning to offer bucket plans for data services, and suggests that heavy internet users shy away from their unlimited data offerings, though the company hasn’t made it clear how it would be implemented. Globe may follow the example of telcos in other countries wherein a customer would pay an additional fee to increase their data plan in a particular month. Vodafone Australia, for example, allows customers to add 1GB, 2.5GB, 4GB and 8GB of data to their monthly plans for Php 400, Php 802, Php 1200 and Php 2200 (converted) respectively.

The move comes a few weeks after Globe started cracking down on people who went over their daily 1GB allotment for data.
