We’ve flown enough in the past few months to know that free WiFi in the PH’s major airports are agonizingly slow. That’s why we’re happy to hear that the new Transportation Secretary, Arthur Tugade has announced that the government is bringing 1GBps of free, hi-speed WiFi to all PH airports for free.

“In due time all our airports will not only be mabango, it will also be communication friendly,” he said during an interview with GMA News Online.

“We are now working and hopefully it will be in effect in the next 100 days, Wifi free… one gigabyte, sa lahat ng airports. In 100 days it will be operational,” he added.

The best part is that if all goes according to plan, the Government won’t even have to spend a single cent in the push, according to Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Ed Monreal.

“Walang gagastusin ang gobyerno. It’s a facility that is going to be given for our riding public,” Monreal said.

“Gagawin ho yon and in fact nag-umpisa na po kaming mag-meeting, iroroll out na. Ang target ho namin na commitment nila sa amin for the entire airport sa MIA… I think if I recall it right it’s about August,” Monreal added.

Finally, world class service from our airports, soon. There’s still much to be done, but at least we’re going in the right direction.
