Finally Our Airports Get Much Needed Tech Upgrades

Apart from the free 1GBPs Smart WiFi service being rolled out in over 17 airports, PLDT also announced that they’re going to do proof of concept for intelligent analytics featuring high-definition facial recognition for NAIA. Basically all the CCTVs they will install will be connected to a database server which will match your face to the identities that they’ve collected and stored. This is an awesome security measure to have but time will tell if it’s something that can actually deter criminals and terrorists from doing their thing.

The initial free proof of concept service is just to show the DOTr that the technology works. After proving it, DOTr will then open it up for bidding to all interested suppliers (the contract won’t automatically go to PLDT/Smart).
