“Humans of New York” will be a Facebook TV Show

Having stayed in New York for the past couple of days, this news really caught my attention. I’ve been following Humans in New York in Facebook for a while now and I love how it “humanized” New Yorkers.  It is easy to forget that each and every person I encountered during my stay there has his or her own story that comes with joys, pains, triumphs and failures.  They all seem so busy and given their purposeful strides on the streets, they seem to always have everything together.  Reading the posts of Humans of New York made me realize that while they are living in an amazing city, they too have struggles like we do.

It seems like I’m not the only one interested in the life stories of New Yorkers given that Humans of New York has over 20 million social media followers.  Now, we can only expect their following to grow even more because Facebook has taken notice of the page and is now including it in their TV show lineup.  As you may already know, Facebook recently announced that they will be producing their own content on Facebook TV.  This will be one of them.

Brandon Stanton, the man behind Humans of New York, originally started the project in 2010. He never imagined that it would one day be a Facebook original docuseries.  In one of his Facebook posts, he mentioned that he has archived a total of 1200 filmed interviews that he can combine to create something special.  He will be working with Oscar nominated executive producer, Julie Goldman for this project.

The show will pilot on Facebook next week and new episodes will be released weekly.
