Woohooo Finally Fast Internet at Our Airports!

Curious about the NAIA Free 1GBPs WiFi launched by Smart and DOTr today? We got you covered. Starting today you can already access and use it. It’s initially 100% free and it has NO TIME LIMIT. Yes, you can stream, browse, and play games to your heart’s content. We’re pretty sure though that they blocked torrents and other bandwidth hogging applications so don’t bother trying that one out, hehe. According to Smart, this service can maintain good speeds with up to 3,000 concurrent users (3,000 people at the same time using it).

“I approached PLDT if they can provide high speed WiFi airports, and immediately, MVP said yes.” – Sec. Arthur Tugade, DOTr

The zero time limit expires on October 10. By then you’ll have a 1-hour cap for free and after that you’ll have to pay for extra access or do something for it.

Apart from the WiFi, MVP also committed installing free CCTVs around the airport. This is definitely a welcome move since our airports are really in dire need of aesthetic and security upgrades.

“This state-of-the-art communications infrastructure will help boost the country’s tourism industry. Today’s travelers are constantly online and rely on mobile apps for information and services that make their trips more enjoyable and productive.” – Manuel V. Pangilinan, PLDT and Smart chairman, president, and CEO

Apart from NAIA, Smart has also installed free carrier-grade WiFi to 11 regional airports. This includes Francisco Bangoy International Airport (Davao), Laguindigan (Misamis Oriential), Bacolod-Silay International Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Roxas Airport, Zamboanga Airport, Clark International Airport, Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport, Laoag International Airport, General Santos International Airport, and Kailbo International Airport.

The good news is that this service won’t end with airports. Smart WiFi has already been installed in two major ports: Batangas International Port and Calapan City Port (Mindoro). Plans are already in motion to have the service up in Caticlan (Boracay), Puerto Princesa (Palawan), and Tagbilaran (Bohol).

Smart also announced that they’re working on setting this up in other public places within the next few years such as city halls, schools, hospitals, MRT, LRT, and malls.
