NTC Issues Cease and Desist Order Against ABS-CBN

All because of the expiration of its congressional franchise

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has issued a Cease and Desist Order against the broadcast giant ABS-CBN because of the expiration of its congressional franchise.

The order basically tells the network to stop its operation of various TV and radio broadcasting stations nationwide because of its failure to acquire a Congressional Franchise, as required by law.

Aside from that, the NTC also gave the company 10 days from the receipt of the cease-and-desist order to respond to why the NTC shouldn’t recall the frequencies assigned to the company.

Republic Act No. 7966 that gave the company a 25-year franchise to operate TV and radio broadcasting stations expired yesterday, May 04, 2020.
