Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg didn’t get up the stage to deliver a keynote address at Facebook F8 but she did give a beautiful and inspiring speech for select Facebook partners and executives at an invite-only breakfast during the opening morning of the event. You can watch the full speech in our Facebook Live video which we’ve linked here.
During her speech, Sandberg shared that in challenging times, we have to go back to who we are and she explained to the crowd who Facebook is as company. She went on to explain that Facebook is a Globalist, Technologist, and an Optimist. It all goes back to their mission to connect the world and she believes that the answer to today’s challenges is to be more connected instead of putting up more walls across the world. She touches, among other things, Fake News and combating people who seek to use the platform to harm others. It’s a pretty good speech and we highly encourage you guys to watch it in the link we provided above. It’s just less than 10 minutes and it’s really worth your time.
Our Sheryl Sandberg Experience
We were able to spend a few minutes chatting with Sheryl during the networking breakfast. It was a brief, pleasant, and warm conversation. She mentioned that she knew that Facebook was hugely popular in our country and that she hopes to see more partnerships that will connect more Filipinos to the world. She gamely posed with this writer for a selfie and even signed and dedicated a book that we had with us for my wife (haha) before she went off and talked with other people in the room.
Personally this writer found her to be very down-to-earth and approachable despite her globally prestigious position. Looking forward to monitoring how her career unfolds in Facebook in the coming years!
