Photo of the Week: A Peek at the Unbox HQ and Work Desk

We often get asked what our work desk looks like at the Unbox HQ. Since we keep getting asked we took some photos to share with you guys where we work when we usually write the posts you see here or where we take photos of the different gadgets we feature. Join us as we give you a virtual tour of my personal home office, the Unbox HQ! 🙂

Can you spot all the gadgets? Hehe.

The photo above pretty much gives you an idea of what the home office set-up looks like. The wooden L-shaped tables were imported from Denmark and we bought them from Coby’s Furniture in Shangrila Mall, Edsa. The cream colored office executive chair was from Mandaue Foam (a little over Php6,000 because of a weekend sale). What you don’t see in the photo is a brown carpet for the flooring which we got from SM Megamall department store and the convertible sofa bed from Our Home in Vmall, Greenhills. The complete set-up without the gadgets is less than Php16,000.

Now let’s take a closer look at the gadgets!

The centerpiece of everything is our trusty and reliable workhorse, the MacBook Pro 15-inch Retina Display. This laptop powers all the accessories and peripherals on the desk. For better ergonomics we got the MBP a stand from RainDesign called the mStand. It’s made from the same brushed metal aluminum material that the MacBook Pro has so it’s a perfect match! To control the MBP we have two Razer products. First we have the Razer BlackWidow Tournament Edition Mechanical Keyboard. This is a must-have for us because it is an absolute joy to type on a mechanical keyboard. The clicky sounds are strangely satisfying to hear especially when you’re mashing out articles at a very fast pace. Next we have the Razer StarCraft II Gaming Mouse. We prefer this mouse because… uh… well we’re huge fans of the StarCraft franchise, lol. If you’re wondering about the mousepad that’s also from Razer.

For the audio set-up we have two options: speakers and headphones. For the speakers we have the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks III. It has three components: two speakers and one subwoofer. All three of them are made from some sort of transparent glass material making it look elegant on the desk. They also sound awesome since it’s a complete set-up with the subwoofer powering the lower ranges and the dual-speakers delivering the detailed mids and highs.

For headphones we actually have a lot but when we took this photo there were two on the desk for review. First is the Marshall Monitor headphones (Php8,000+) which we’ve actually done an unboxing post about already. Next is the Superlux HD681 Evo HD (Php1,990) which we’ve also unboxed and featured on the site. Both cans are placed on the FiiO wooden headphone stands which we got from Egghead (Php900+).

The big monitor you saw at the background in the first photo is actually a Samsung Series 4 42-inch LED TV. We use this TV mostly for two reasons. First it’s usually a secondary display for the MacBook Pro (connected via HDMI). The apps on display here are usually iTunes and Twitter. The second is when we want to watch movies or TV series that we’ve downloaded. All we do is play it on iTunes or VLC, go full screen, and then move to the sofa (not visible in the photo) and we’re set! The audio is taken care of by the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks III.

What’s not visible in the first photo that’s critical to this entire set-up is actually our internet source. We actually just moved into this new condo a month ago so we don’t have PLDT DSL yet. In lieu of that we have our trusty Sony Xperia Z docked in the official Sony Xperia charging dock with WiFi Hotspot turned on… and yes it is powered by the ridiculously fast Smart LTE.

By the way, the camera we usually use for taking photos is a Canon D500 DSLR camera with Macro Lens. We obviously couldn’t take a photo of it since we were using it to take photos for this post, hehe. As for where we take the pictures we just usually go around the condo and look for a good spot with nice lighting, hehe.

This is pretty much the home office set-up for Unbox. We’re still adding a few things over the next few weeks and we’ll probably do another update post once we get the new gear in.

Lastly, if you have very sharp eyes you might have spotted two more gadgets on our desk that we haven’t talked about yet. First is the Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro. We’re currently in the process of reviewing this hybrid device. We also have the ASUS Zenbook Prime, another gadget up for unboxing and review. Here are close-up photos of both of ’em:
