Delta Airline’s wing panel rips off while in flight thousands of feet up in the air

Imagine this: you’re comfortably sitting in the window seat of your plane, roughly halfway through your roughly 1 hour and 18 minute flight when your plane suddenly shakes violently. When you look out of your window, you see the picture above. How would you react? For reddit user Rozard, the question wasn’t hypothetical. He was flying from Orlando, FL to Atlanta, GA on a Delta Airlines plane when his plane shook violently. When he looked out of his window, he saw that one of the wing panels on the plane he was flying on was simply gone.

While the plane still flew safely without the protective panel (and landed without incident), you can clearly see in the photo that the innards of the wing is exposed to the elements. Several aircraft mechanics on reddit hypothesize that the panel flew off not because of external forces (or gremlins) but because someone on the ground simply forgot to screw it in properly. Fortunately for all involved, the plane landed without incident, though we’re sure that many bricks were shat inside the aircraft – with all the news surrounding the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, this is the last thing that passengers on the unnamed Delta flight wanted to see.
