Smart And Huawei Breach 6.5Gbps In 5G Test

5G is the next battleground

5G is the next big battleground for telcos, and Smart, the wireless arm of PLDT is starting to ramp up their 5G deployment. The company has managed to breach the 6.5Gbps barrier in a 5G test earlier this week in Smart’s own Technolab, a facility that will focus on the research and development, standardization, and testing of 5G.

Powering their testing efforts and eventually the network itself is Huawei, which, aside from making phones, is one of the biggest manufacturers of telcommunications equipment in the world. Huawei is already leading the way for 5G, which promises to open new avenues in Internet of Things (IoT) applications for Filipinos, particularly in healthcare and smart cities. The company is also expected to launch their first 5G-equipped phone in 2019.
