Promises to bring more LTE sites across the PH

Smart invited us to a little powow a few days ago to give us a heads-up in their current FD-LTE and TD-LTE installations. In a nutshell, Smart is saying that they’ll be pushing a total of 1,400 new LTE sites all over the country, which includes both mobile LTE sites as well as fixed LTE sites meant to provide LTE internet to home users.

“Our continuing investment to expand capacity, reach, and availability in our network allows us to deliver the best Internet experience to subscribers in both mobile and fixed platforms,” said Smart Technology Group Head Rolando Pena. “We are also deploying new technologies such as LTE Advanced to be able to respond to the expected demand in mobile data for years to come.”

Speaking of LTE-A, Smart also told us that their network is ready for LTE-A to come to the country. Recently the telco fired up to LTE-A sites in the country to demonstrate their LTE-A prowess. Right now they’re just waiting for wider LTE-A adoption, once more people have LTE-A phones it’s all a matter of throwing a switch (so to speak).

Smart has also said that in their tests conducted on the ground with consumers, their LTE network is superior to their competition. Charles A. Lim, EVP and Head of the Wireless Consumer Division at Smart said that “In sample tests conducted in at least 500 areas nationwide, Smart emerged with the fastest mobile speeds among telcos. This is further validated by speed tests conducted by users in more than 100 areas nationwide.”
