Don’t set your date to January 1, 1970
iPhone users have been viewed (rather unfairly) as gullible consumers that know absolutely nothing about tech by many internet trolls, and many of them have gone to extreme lengths to prove it. One new modus operandi for trolls who dislike Apple and its loyal customers is to try and convince you to set back the clock of your iPhone to January 1, 1970.
If you’re wondering if why someone in their right mind would even think of setting their clock that far back, well, it’s because of the image above. Trolls from 4Chan are trying to get people to set back the clock of their iPhones to January 1, 1970 to access that small easter egg. Unfortunately, instead of that retro logo, you’re getting a massive paperweight if you follow their instructions as your phone will be completely bricked and unrecoverable if follow their instructions. The problem can only be fixed from an Apple store.
The new bug affects 64-bit iOS devices, which means models from the iPhone 5S, iPad Air, iPad Mini 2 and above are affected.
