Have you ever experienced opening a car thinking that it’s your Uber ride only to find out that you were mistaken? While we can glance at plate numbers to identify the car, this can get pretty difficult on dark areas or when a street is too busy.
Introducing Uber’s Beacon: the fast, easy and colorful way to find your ride. The Beacon is a light that attaches to the car’s windscreen and displays the color of your choice. The option to choose will pop up when the driver starts making his way to your pick up area. Uber thought of this to help riders “quickly identify their booked vehicle at night, helping to make pickups easier during busy times and areas.”
As of the moment, Beacon is only available in Miami, Denver and Nashville in the US as it is still in the trial phase. Uber intends to expand the trial to more cities come 2017 but there is no confirmed list of locations yet.
There will be other app features to make identifying vehicles easier. Uber is planning to include the registration plate, the make and model of the car as well as display the vehicle’s color and supply photos so the rider knows what the car looks like before it arrives.
With the growing number of Uber riders in Manila, we can’t help but hope that the added features will be available here soon.
