Udenna-Chelsea-China Telecom Consortium is the Lone Player for the Third Telco Race

They proceed to the second round of the bidding process

Following the disqualification of the Chavit Singson-led LCS-TierOne consortium and Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (PT&T) for incomplete documents, the Udenna-Chelsea-China Telecom consortium is the sole participant that qualified for the first round of the bidding process for the New Major Player (NMP).

The consortium, collectively known as Mislatel (short for Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company), comprises of Udenna Corporation, Chelsea Holdings, and China Telecom. Udenna is owned by Davao businessman Dennis Uy, while Chelsea Holdings is a subsidiary wholly owned by Uy. His other business ventures include Phoenix Petroleum and stakes in 2GO, FamilyMart, Enderun and ISM Communications Corporation.

China Telecom, on the other hand, is a Chinese carrier that boasts of 281.6 million subscribers in China—of which 217.3 million are on 3G.

The selection process for the third telco is now ongoing, with PT&T and LCS-TierOne consortium planning to file a motion for reconsideration in “within three days”.
