Unbox PH Bag Raid: Jamie’s Gear List

Unbox PH Bag Raid: Jamie’s Gear List

What’s in my Bag?

While a few gadgets are still in their review process, I thought that I would share what gear I usually have with me to be able to share the world of tech to you guys. This list isn’t an Everyday Carry because trust me, it isn’t fun to carry all of this gear on your back for the whole day but it is what you would usually find in my bag of tricks when I head to events whether it’s locally or when we do get the chance to go out of the country to cover launches. Without further ado, here’s my gear list.

Case Logic SLR Camera/Laptop Backpack

Let’s start with the bag that houses all of my gear first — The Case Logic SLR Camera/Laptop Backpack. It doesn’t have the sexiest name nor is it is sleek but it carries everything I need when I go to cover events and then some. I’ve always been a fan of Case Logic’s gear because, in my experience, their bags can really handle a beating. I’ve been using this bag for 3 years and, while it’s definitely seen better days, I still trust it to house all the gear you’re about to see plus the base of the bag helps it stand on its own even when packed to the brim so it just isn’t lying around.

Sony a7R III

I usually shoot photos and video with my trusty Sony a6300, but John had the chance to head to Singapore to check out Sony’s new Full Frame mirrorless camera — the Sony a7R III — and has graciously handed me the review unit to try out. I’ve had it for a couple of days now and it’s an extremely incredible shooter that’s equipped with a 42-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor. We will be taking out for a photoshoot very soon, so stay tuned for that. ASUS FX502V

As some of you may know, I’m in charge of most of our content on the Unbox YouTube channel and so I need a capable notebook to be able to edit on the fly plus a few games here and there to take the edge off. The laptop I have is the ASUS FX502V and, while it doesn’t have the Republic of Gamers seal from the Taiwanese brand, it definitely isn’t a slouch for both productivity and a bit of gaming on the side. It has an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor with 8GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GTX 1060, and a 128GB SSD plus a 1TB HDD.

Nintendo Switch

Another addition to my gear is the Nintendo Switch. It took me awhile to get on the hype train and I’m actually glad I waited a bit to purchase Nintendo’s awesome hybrid console. Yes, I’m still getting a better experience on the laptop for gaming, but the ability to whip out the Switch on a long flight and play a few games of NBA 2K18 to pass the time is definitely one the big reasons why I decided to buy the console. The Switch’s library of games is also starting to pick up and it’s only going to get better next year.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro

We go through a lot of smartphones here at Unbox but, while I’ve had the chance to review other flagship devices, my daily driver is still the Huawei Mate 10 Pro. It’s plenty fast if I need to do a bit of work on the go and produces high-quality snaps if I need to fulfill my duties as an Instagram Husband or simple capture awesome moments with the wifey. Western Digital MyPassport 1TB

As you might imagine, the storage on my notebook can full up rather quickly with all the footage I have to store (not to mention all the games I recently bought during the Steam Autumn Sale). An external drive definitely helps me offload some of the footage to keep my drives clutter-free and allows me to share my clips with the rest of the team. What I love about this external drive from Western Digital is that it’s USB 3.0 so transfer rates are fast, tremendously cutting out the idle time (Although with the Switch, I really don’t mind so much).

Also, fun fact, I buy things in red so they’re easy to see in the organized chaos that is my office.

That’s it for my gear list. The rest of the team will be sharing what they have with them for their Everyday Carry or when we go out on assignment so do stay tuned if that’s something that interests you. You can also share your gear list or your favorite gadget by heading to the comment section.
