Razer Announces Partnership with Singtel for Cashless Payments

Venturing into new businesses outside of gaming

While we know of Razer as a brand geared towards gaming and e-sports, its latest partnership with the Singtel group goes beyond that. Specifically, Razer wants to improve e-payment services in the Southeast Asian region.

As announced by Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan, Razer and Singtel are working on bringing e-payment services not just in Singapore, but to the rest of Southeast Asia. There are no details as to how the partnership will go by, but both Razer and SingTel will have access to all customers and participating merchants. This means that Singtel’s customers can pay merchants that use Razer’s zGold credits, and it will work vice versa. The partnership aims to encourage users to use cashless payment options, and they aim to expand it to neighboring Southeast Asian countries.

“Think of it as the Star Alliance of wallets,” Singtel International Group Chief Executive Arthur Lang said in an interview.

In addition, the partnership is part of Tan’s solution to Singapore’s problem of multiple digital payments. Should the partnership be a success, Tan said that it will be a “massive step toward moving the entire Southeast Asia region to a cashless economy.”
