OMG: Western Digital Unveils the SanDisk 1TB SD Card

One thing we absolutely hate is forgetting to empty out the contents of our SD card before heading out to a shoot. We have to sift through all the footage and photos we’ve taken making sure we keep the important ones that still have to be used for stories. Before we know it, perfect moments pass us by or we’d have to wait a little longer as the newly released product has been passed on to one of our peers.

We only have 64GB on hand for our cameras, but now it seems that we or anyone who may need a huge amount of storage for images and video may no longer have to worry about backing up our data after each event. Western Digital just revealed the prototype for a 1 TB SDXC card at Photokina 2016. That’s right! 1 Terabyte! After announcing the availability of the 512GB SDXC at Photokina last year, they push the envelope further with the reveal of this prototype.

They haven’t said when it will be available or how much the massive SDXC card will be, but we’re guessing since the 512GB SDXC card they revealed last year cost $800 or around Php38,000 — it’s probably going to cost an arm and a leg. Yowza! We’re guessing professional filmmakers who shoot in 4K and up would love to get a hand on these cards when they get released.
