IS THIS FOR REAL?
Yes, we’ve already heard rumors of IKEA opening its first store in the Philippines in the past. And yes, we were all disappointed when it did not materialize. So is the news for real this time? The Swedish ambassador, Harald Fries, thinks so and not only did he confirm that IKEA will be “coming in” the Philippines but he also says that it will be soon.
IKEA is the largest furniture retailer in the world and is known for modern architectural designs. It is often associated with simple, eco-friendly furniture that is reasonably priced.
EXCITED CUSTOMERS CAN HARDLY WAIT
I can feel the excitement of IKEA fans who had to go through the trouble of buying products of the brand abroad. While we do not know where the first store will open, it is a relief that IKEA will finally be within reach.
IKEA TO BRING IN GREAT OPPORTUNITIES
While having IKEA in the Philippines is great for shoppers, it also great for investors and jobseekers. According to Harald Fries:
“If IKEA goes in the Philippines, like it has gone in other countries, there would be great opportunities for Filipinos to find work and there would be investment in putting up stores … I won’t be surprised that once they have set their camp here, they’ll be looking for local manufacturing. I think that would be wonderful and interesting for the Philippines.”
That is certainly something to look forward to.
