Free internet for everyone!
Yesterday Smart officially became the first telco to bring Facebook’s Internet.org initiative to SEA. Internet.org, if you’re not aware, is Facebook-led initiative that aims to bring free internet connectivity to the masses. It’s a project that’s near and dear to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO who celebrated the announcement by posting a photo of a tricycle and its driver.
Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer for Facebook, also posted on her personal page about the partnership between Smart and Facebook, and shared the story of three girls – Jessica, Janessa and Jussa – all from Puerto Princesa and how they managed to learn how to read and write because of mobile teachers and special apps that’s empowered by Internet.org.
