A viral story has been doing the rounds on Chinese social media platforms lately involving a woman selling all her iPhone 7 units and buying a house with the proceeds.

“Xiaoli”, a native of Shenzhen, China, supposedly asked each of her 20 “current boyfriends” to buy her the newly-launched Apple iPhone 7. She then sold all the gifted phones at an online reseller website for a total of around $17000 and used the money to fund the deposit for a countryside house. Whoa, slick moves there, sister.

“Everyone in the office is talking about this now,” wrote a certain “Proud Qiaoba”, a friend of Xiaoli, and the source of the viral story. “Who knows what her boyfriends think now this news has become public,” Proud Qiaoba added.

“Her parents are getting old and she might be under a lot of pressure hoping to buy them a house. But it’s still unbelievable that she could use this method!” Proud Qiaoba remarked.

Chinese netizens had varied reactions, ranging from utter disbelief to admiration for Xiaoli’s unusual “feat”.

“I can’t even find one boyfriend. She can actually find 20 boyfriends at the same time and even get them to buy her an iPhone 7. Just want to ask her to teach me such skills,” wrote one poster.

“The most shameless person!” commented user “Little Bee” on a different forum.

BBC News confirmed from the online reseller website that they had purchased 20 iPhone 7 handsets from a female client early October, handing a payment of $850 per unit.
