3 Things We Know About the Huawei Mate 10

Here’s What to Expect from Huawei’s Flagship Phablet

We’re in Munich, Germany to cover the launch of the much-awaited Huawei Mate 10. While we’re all still on a bit of a high from the recent launch of the Nova 2i, Huawei plans to grab our attention once more by introducing us to their flagship phablet later tonight. As a bit of a primer, here’s a couple of things we can expect from the Huawei Mate 10 prior to launch.

Left: Mate 10; Right: Mate 10 Pro

Going 18:9 In a Big Way

The release of the Nova 2i may have made it the first device from Huawei to adopt the current it trend in smartphones — a display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 — the Mate 10 will have one that’s bigger and better than its mid-range sibling. With the Mate 10, we’re getting a 6.2-inch display with QHD+ resolution; giving us sharper details for browsing the web or social media feeds. Several leaks and renders have already given us a good idea of what it’s going to look like and those extremely thin top and bezels definitely guarantee more screen real estate.

Extremely Fast Lenses by Leica

It’s no surprise that Huawei has once again partnered up with famed camera manufacturer, Leica, for the Mate 10. It has been one of the best moves they’ve made in the past couple of years and has really done wonders for the brand. While the Huawei P10 Plus has gotten a bit of a bump up with their second-generation Summilux Leica lenses, we’re getting even better ones on the upcoming flagship phablet. Yes, we are getting a bump up in megapixel count, but we’re also getting faster lenses as well. We’re going from an aperture of f/1.8 that’s on the P10 Plus to an aperture of f/1.6 on the Mate 10, meaning we should get better shots in low-light and more bokeh when not using the wide aperture mode on the device.

The Kirin 970 Is An Intelligent Beast

Huawei’s Hi-Silicon 9 series processors have always been reserved for the company’s flagships. We are, of course, expecting a bit of a bump up in terms of performance but what sets the Kirin 970 apart from its predecessors is its dedicated NPU for AI functions. Over time the Mate 10 should learn your usage habits to help optimize the system for you; making it more efficient and help it last a little longer in the day. As always, you can expect to have great connectivity with the Mate 10 because, after all, most of the cell sites in the Philippines are from Huawei. The device has an advanced 4.5G connection and is capable of download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps.

Those are just some of the things we should be expecting to hear about as the device launches later tonight.
