How many Cores is Too Much? Meet the 64-Core Lenovo ThinkStation P620

What is the most powerful pre-build desktop you can possibly buy right now? If you are thinking of outfitting the Mac Pro with the most powerful Xeon W processor, Lenovo wants to contest that with its ThinkStation P620 tower.

What makes Lenovo’s latest professional tower unique is that it is the first to use AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors. Announced early this year, the latest Threadripper processor outdoes every single processor out there with its insane 64-core, 128-thread design that ensures users have all the power they will need to get things done. That amount of muscle ensures that you can achieve seamless 8K streaming in real-time and have reduced render times, ultra-fast simulation solving, quick assembly rebuilds, and smooth interactivity with 3D assets.

Configuration options are also out of this world: you can outfit the ThinkStation P620 with up to two Quadro RTX 8000 or four RTX 4000 GPU cards, up to 1TB of RAM, and up to 20TB of NVMe SSD storage. Since speed is the name of the game, the ThinkStation P620 uses the latest PCIe 4.0 protocol, which offers twice the bandwidth of PCIe 3.0. To keep temps stable, Lenovo and AMD designed a custom air-cooling solution for the ThinkStation P620

The ThinkStation P620 will be available in September 2020.
