As confirmed by Cherry Mobile’s AVP for Product Development

Cherry Mobile has revealed quite a number of things during their Capture Every Moment Event: Their new CherryOS Android overlay, their partnership with Samsung for camera sensors, and the launch of their Flare S6 line.

With the many announcements they made, Cherry Mobile has a little surprise: They will be updating the whole Flare S6 line to Android Oreo. This has been confirmed by Lonson Alejandrino, Cherry Mobile’s AVP for Product Development in our short interview with him. As for the timeline, Alejandrino said that they will be deploying the update by the end of 2017 or early 2018.

This is a significant development, as Cherry Mobile is ramping up its efforts to give the latest updates to its smartphones. Through this confirmation, we can say that Cherry Mobile is becoming more competitive amidst a very saturated market for Android smartphones.

In addition, Alejandrino hinted during the interview that they will be upgrading select Cherry Mobile handsets to Android Oreo. As for which models will be upgraded, we will update you once Alejandrino gives us the final list, so stay tuned.
