Amazon Suspends Sales of BLU Phones Over Preloaded Spyware

Spyware concerns have hounded the Miami-based company since last year.

Online retail marketplace Amazon has abruptly suspended sales of all BLU Products smartphones over privacy issues. Amazon, acting on a recent report from security company Kryptowire which uncovered that BLU Products were still sending user data to Chinese servers, has raised the red flag over “security concerns.” The online retailer will be reinstating sales once BLU sorts out the issues.

Last November 2016, BLU Products also came under fire for admitting that some of their handsets were secretly sending user data to China via their Adups OTA update software. Kryptowire also released the report that discovered the privacy threat. BLU stated then that it was pushing new updates to replace the alleged spyware.

Faced with a new round of spyware concerns, BLU Products has released an official statement denying the latest allegations, stating that their phones have “absolutely no spyware or malware or secret software.” “The devices are still behaving in the same exact way. There has been absolutely no new behavior or change in any of our devices to trigger any concern. We expect Amazon to understand this, and quickly reinstate our devices for sale.”
