When we first wrote about Google partnering with local brands a lot of our readers raised this very valid question: “Did Google do their research about local brands? Customer service is a nightmare!”

To some extent, we agree. Fortunately for us Google knows this and they’re actually addressing it via Android One.

“OEMs are reporting seeing much fewer returns and lower service issues with Android One phones.” -Caesar Sengupta, Vice President for Product Management, Google

He went on to explain that Google worked with Mediacom and Qualcomm to create reference specifications to work with the new Android One software that will allow OEMs (local brands) to make better quality and reliable devices. Not only does Android one promise the latest and greatest in software from Google, it also hopes to elevate the over-all standard and quality of low cost Android devices.

Ultimately though we will only find out if this is indeed true once a lot of Pinoys get their hands on Android One phones. As it stands there are two devices to pick from: the MyPhone Uno and the Cherry Mobile One.

We’ll do our part and try to get our hands on units as soon as possible so we can give you guys reviews. However it would be better if all owners give their feedback on the Android One phones. We searched on Facebook and we found a Facebook Group called Android One Philippines (Support). You might want to sign-up and monitor there for user feedback as the weeks and months go by.

Congratulations again to Google PH, MyPhone, and Cherry Mobile on this initiative. Looking forward to seeing more Android One phones in the coming months!
