Apart from their Smartphones, Sony is Absolutely Killing It!

Most of the news about Sony at IFA is revolving around their new Xperia smartphones, the Sony Xperia XZ1 and the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact. For me though the real gem is everything else apart from the smartphones that they unveiled. Sony has been killing it on almost every other market that they’re in and they showed that in force during the IFA 2017.

Taking Camera Work to the Next Level with the Sony RX0

RX0

The Sony Alpha series is our camera of choice for all of the video and photography that you see here in Unbox. We’re happy to see that Sony is finally expanding beyond the traditional SLR with the RX0, a GoPro-looking but much more capable camera that’s built for capturing video in VR or in multi-cam, multi-angle set-ups. It can shoot in 4K, 250fps HD, stills up to 16 fps, and it’s waterproof up to 33 feet. Only thing we don’t like is the SRP of $700 (hehe).

Making the Best Headphones Even Better

Sony just updated their kickass MDR-1000X headphones

Last May we called the Sony MDR-1000x the best wireless noise-cancelling headphones that you can get in the market today. At IFA Sony made the best even better when they unveiled the successor of the MDR-1000x, the WH-1000XM2. It now has longer battery life, quick charging, and a more affordable price tag of $350.

They Now Have Smart Speakers Powered by Google Assistant

Much better looking that the Apple Homepod or the Google Home

Sony also showed that they’re not backing down the Smart Speaker market with their new offering, the LF-S50G smart speaker. It’s equipped with Google Assistant which allows for a variety of voice commands. It’s splash-resistant (IPX3), shows the time in an elegant way, and offers 360-degree audio. It also has Bluetooth, NFC, and gesture control. It will start selling in the US this coming October with a price tag of $200.

Add to this their dominance in the gaming space and you see how strong Sony’s position is in the over-all gadget scene. Their Xperia series might not be crushing it, but their focus on their core strengths lets them continue to churn out amazing products that their fans will love for the years to come.

PS: This is not a paid ad. I’m a huge fan of the Sony MDR-1000x (paid with my own hard earned money with no discount) and we really use Sony Alpha cameras for all of our shoots here at Unbox. And yeah we still think the new Xperia series are kinda lacking and need change.
