Apple Rolls Out iOS 12.1.4 Update to Address FaceTime Bug

You should get this update ASAP

After Group FaceTime was disabled due to a serious bug, Apple is bringing back the feature with iOS 12.1.4. The said update patches the said bug, which is crucial as it can potentially spy on users without them knowing.

In a statement, Apple said that their team “conducted a thorough security audit of the FaceTime service and made additional updates to both the FaceTime app and server to improve security.” Aside from the FaceTime bug, Apple discovered a vulnerability in FaceTime’s Live Photos feature, of which they have addressed with iOS 12.1.4.

To recap, the FaceTime bug allowed users to hear the audio captured by the device of the person you were calling after you added yourself to a Group FaceTime call before they answered. The same bug also occurs with video calls.

As a response, Apple is giving credit to Grant Thompson for discovering the bug by making Thompson eligible for the Apple bug bounty program.
