Two new entries round up the top 10
After being beaten by Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Plus in Counterpoint’s April report, Apple steals the spotlight this time with the iPhone 8 being tied with the Galaxy S9 Plus as the best-selling phones based on their May report.
A closer look at the report reveals that it is Apple and Samsung territory for the top 5, save for Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A, which is the fourth best-selling phone. What’s interesting with Counterpoint’s May report involves the top 6 to 10, where you have Huawei’s P20 Lite at 7th place, vivo’s X21 at eighth place, and OPPO’s A83 at tenth place.
The inclusion of the P20 Lite is due to the good sales of Huawei’s P20 series. The X21’s inclusion is more surprising: even if it is expensive, people still bought the X21 because of its first-of-its-kind under display fingerprint scanner. Lastly, price cuts and the introduction of new variants helped OPPO’s A83 to be part of the top 10 once again.
