We were given an opportunity to interview Jerry Shen, Chief Executive Officer of ASUS, during the Zenfone 2 launch yesterday at the World Trade Center. The discussion ranged from a variety of topics and we even found out during that interview the launch date of the highly anticipated Zenfone Zoom.

Another gold nugget of information that we dug up was that ASUS is indeed working on an Android One smartphone with Google. It will be independent from the Zenfone series (so yeah don’t get your hopes up for a Zenfone Android One) and will launch within the year. However there are no plans right now to release that device in the Philippines as they intend on offering it only in India.

Watch our full interview below. If you want to skip directly to the point where he talked about the Android One program, head on over to 6:46.

  1. Woah! Kinda imagining if they would make a zenfone 5 android one edition! It would be awesome though like the oneplus one where they have 2 software choices between Oxygen OS and cyanogenmod
