The Zenfone Zoom is coming!!

Yesterday was all about the launch of the Zenfone 2 in the Philippines, but we managed to sit down and talk with ASUS CEO Jerry Shen to talk about the other Zenfone, the Zenfone Zoom. The Zenfone Zoom is a very unique product for ASUS, as it has the roughly the same processing power as the Zenfone 2 with a much improved 13-megapixel rear camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 10-element lens. It comes packing very impressive camera tech including optical image stabilization (OIS), f/2.0 lens, full manual mode and a dual-color LED flash. That’s all packed inside a rather slim 11.95mm body. While that doesn’t sound that impressive, remember that other competing smartphones that have the same imaging capability are way chunkier and thicker than the Zenfone Zoom. That’s why we’re happy to say that the Zenfone Zoom is launching in a few months, September in fact, in ASUS’ home turf of Taiwan before launching to the rest of the world in October – at least, according to Jerry Shen. It’s unclear if the Zenfone Zoom will retain ASUS’ quoted $399 (around 18K) price point when it’s launched or if it’ll have multiple variants like the Zenfone 2 – we’ll probably know once COMPUTEX rolls around in June.
