They are open to many options
After we spotted different ZenFone 6 prototypes a few months back, ASUS is considering not just a punch-hole display, but also one with a pop-up mechanism a la Find X and NEX.
Spotted by LetsGoDigital, the schematics show three different pop-up module sizes, with the bigger ones presumed to hold not just the front camera but a variety of sensors as well. As seen with the schematics, you get an all-screen display, with a tiny slit on top to house the earpiece.
Aside from pop-up cameras, ASUS is considering a hole punch display like the Galaxy A8s, Nova 4, and Honor V20. One of the ZenFone 6 prototypes spotted a few months back comes with this kind of display, so we expect ASUS to most likely use this design for the ZenFone 6 come February/March 2019. However, that is not stopping ASUS to opt for a pop-up module approach.
