ASUS’ TUF Gaming Laptops Get Some Ryzen Love

Sporting the latest 12nm Ryzen chips

AMD makes a statement with its 12nm Ryzen chips in CES, and ASUS is among the first few brands to utilize the new processor. With a choice between a 15.6-inch (FX505DY) or 17-inch (FX705DY) variants, both models are powered by either a Ryzen 7 3750H or Ryzen 5 3550H processor, and come with Radeon RX 560X discrete GPU. Both variants come with FreeSync-enabled Full HD displays, though you get a better 120hz display on the 15.6-inch variant.

Configuration options include either a 512GB SSD or 1TB Firecuda SSHD and up to 32GB RAM. You get essential ports on these TUF Gaming laptops, which include three USB 3.0 ports, headphone jack, HDMI port, and an Ethernet port.

While there is no official price as of press writing, it is nice to see ASUS use more affordable Ryzen chips for its low-end gaming laptop line. In addition, this is a positive development for AMD, as brands acknowledge that there are alternatives to Intel’s processors.
