BlackBerry Bold 9790 Review

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 (together with the BlackBerry Curve 9380) was recently unveiled and launched in Jakarta, Indonesia. This particular model received mixed reactions from different tech journalists and bloggers since it pretty much has the same specs as the BlackBerry Bold 9900. However after playing around with it for a few days now I can honestly say that the Bold 9790 has a different market and RIM made a good decision when they decided to ship this.

Quick Refresher on Specs

The Bold 9790 packs almost the same specs as the Bold 9900. The only difference is the processor. The BlackBerry Bold 9790 has a slightly lower 1GHz CPU versus the Bold 9900’s 1.2GHz. The difference in performance though is unnoticeable. It has the same generous offering of 768MB RAM. This makes the phone much snappier and fluid compared to all other previous models (and it doesn’t crash every other day like the Curve 9300 or Bold 9700). It also has a 5MP camera which actually takes really good photos if you’re in decent lighted places (otherwise it’s crap).

Lastly, the BlackBerry Bold 9790 also has a touch screen making it another “Touch and Type” smartphone from RIM.

It’s all about form factor

One of the biggest drawbacks of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is actually one of it’s best features: the form factor. It’s either you love it or you hate it since it’s a bit bigger compared to the 9700 line. That’s where the BlackBerry Bold 9790 comes in. if the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is all about power and prestige, the BlackBerry Bold 9790 is all about grace, finesse, and elegance. In other words RIM decided to divide the Bold line into 2 form factors.

The BlackBerry Bold 9790: Gorgeous from every angle.

The BlackBerry Bold 9790 is very light, thin, and just beautiful to look at from all angles. It’s very easy to hold and “pocketable”. The back tapers to the top (that’s the thickest point). Here’s a photo of the side view:

Very thin! FYI the wallet at the background is a DOSH Classic Wallet. Just search for it here at Unbox for more details! Hahaha 🙂

Here’s a photo of the back:

The back is smooth and easy to grip.

The price is just right

Another great thing about this particular model is the price. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 sells for a whopping Php31,690 putting it out of reach for a lot of people. If you directly covert the Jakarta price for the Bold 9790 though it comes out to around Php21,000+.

The best BlackBerry yet?

The best BlackBerry yet?

The affordable price, great specs, fast performance, and sleek form factor makes the BlackBerry Bold 9790 the best BlackBerry ever made if you ask me. It’s the total package that won’t burn too deep a hole in your pocket. If you’re a fan of BlackBerry smartphones then you seriously have to consider this when you decide to go for an upgrade.
