Bluetooth 5.0 is finally ready for consumer products, according to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). The SIG officially launched the new version on Wednesday and expects Version 5.0-enabled products in early 2017.
So, what’s new in Bluetooth 5.0? According to the SIG, 5.0 features 4 times the range, 2 times the speed, and eight times the broadcast message capacity from the earlier Version 4.3. Wowza.
Bluetooth 5.0 also has greater resistance to interference from similar wireless technologies, improving its general connectivity. As with the earlier iterations of the technology, Version 5.0 still remains energy efficient with its use of power.
With the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 only a month away, in January 2017, it’s probably safe to expect new gadgets and gizmos in the tech show featuring the new Bluetooth standard. We’ll find out soon once CES 2017 goes live.
