Canon Outs 35mm f/2.8 Macro Lens with Built-in Ring Light

No More Lugging Around Extra Equipment

You can usually tell when we’re doing a full on shoot, since we’re pretty much lugging all our lighting equipment around with us at an event or our selected location. While it does produce better results than relying on the inadequate lighting in some coffee shops, it’s a pain in the butt and the back as well; which is why this new lens from Canon caught our attention. While we do see camera and lens manufacturers try to better the glass we use, it’s not often that we see something like this.

Canon has just released a 35mm Macro lens with an f-stop of f/2.8 and it’s got a built-in ring light.

The lens itself is comprised of 10 elements in 6 groups and has a hybrid image stabilization on-board with its closest focusing distance at 130mm and, yes, a ring light. We won’t bore you with the specs, we’ll show you a comparison of photos taken using the lens with and without the ring light on.

It’s true that not everyone takes Macro shots, like the cross-section of an okra that you see above and below, but it’s nice to know that if or when you do — you won’t have to be bringing around a separate light source with you. Here are more sample shots using the 35mm macro lens.

Canon lists the EF-S 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM at $349.99 or Php 17,434.75; that’s not too bad of  a price tag right there.
